USB -> CAN cable? Empty
PostSubject: USB -> CAN cable?   USB -> CAN cable? Icon_minitimeThu Mar 19, 2009 8:19 am

I've heard this will not be included? Can you please confirm?

If not, what cables will work? (looking for cheap..)

Cheapest USB->CAN cable I've found is http://www.qprotos.com/USB2CAN.htm - will this work?

I've also found this, but looks like the company would need to be contacted over the phone and they are not in this country, http://www.edevices.lt - if their website info is correct, they have a USB->CAN adapter for $85 USD (purchases of 1-4, cheaper the more you purchase)

The Can cable will not be included. It is an option as not everyone wants to be able to use the software. We are looking at cheaper alternatives, but for now, the Kvasar is the most reliable.

Ok, well regardless of reliability, will any of these other cables work? $300 for a cable is completely absurd in my opinion, and its going to be hard to justify spending over $2k on an engine management system that I will still have to spend $300 on a cable for.

Also, what exactly do you mean by "reliability" when it comes to the cable?

You guys cant do some kind of gross purchase on those kvasar cables at a discount?

The reliability is in the data transfer. Some of the cheaper ones we have tested have been quite buggy, and the last thing you want is bad data being transferred without your knowledge. We are working on a less expensive solution and hopefully will have an answer soon. The Kvasar pricing is with quantity.

I know its hard to say, but any idea on a timeframe for a solution? I need to decide on a new EMS yesterday, proefi is at the top of my list, but its going to get bumped if I'm left with either paying $300 for a cable, or paying someone $500 to tune it.

Is this Jason per chance?

We have some less expensive solutions on order for testing. I am hoping to have an alternative solution in the next two weeks.

Yes... this is Jason.

Alright good to hear..

I've never spoken to you directly (aside from through this forum) however I've had Ray @ PFS make a few calls to you about some questions I've had.

From seeing the one at PFS, the kvaser cable is the Leaf Light HS cable correct?

We have a cheaper unit in testing right now, and so far, so good! We should be completed with testing in the next couple of weeks! This cable will be around $200.00

No reliable ones as of yet. So far the cheaper solutions have been causing some issues.
