PostSubject: Kvaser CAN cable question   Wed Sep 25, 2013 1:10 pm

Does the software use a specific API or driver for the Kvaser cable, or does it use a generic Windows USB driver to connect to the USB side of the Kvaser cable?

Also, if the 701 can accept RS-485 communication ... how is that enabled?

Finally got an answer ... the software uses a driver specific to the Kvaser cable to communicate with the Kvaser uC and mcp chips. It will not work with any other cable because of this ... boooooo.

There is a good reason for this. The Kvasar cable is a reliable rugged piece. You don't want bad data being transferred through a lesser cable.

That's exactly what they said about video and HDMI cables when they first came out and were $150 dollars

What does an HDMI cable have to do with anything? You get noise on your tv, the worst thing that happens is a pixle drops. In our case, it puts a .02 where you wanted something else, and you blow up your engine. Not exactly the same thing.
