Sequential Valve Setup Empty
PostSubject: Sequential Valve Setup   Sequential Valve Setup Icon_minitimeMon Jun 10, 2013 11:39 pm

Finally getting some time to work on my IS that I started a few years back and has sat since. For the time being, I'm simplifying the install and getting it running with a stock Aristo VVTi 2JZ GTE motor, using ProEFI 128 on an IS300 harness. I'm wiring in the fuel pressure sensor, map sensor, iboost, CAN gauge in addition to the base harness.

I had a VPro set up but sold it and went with the ProEFI. Part of the reason being the ability to do sequential valve control. I drove the Aristo swapped One Lap IS300 that RCTS built back in 2002/2003. Sequential control on that car was accomplished with some crafty integration of Aristo ECU, but that car is what got me hooked on wanting a VVTi 2JZ. The torque at 2000 or 2500rpms was quite impressive.

Anyway, as I'm starting to set things up, few questions are coming to mind. Curious if anyone here can answer them.

If understand the sequential valve duty table --- at a selected valve frequency of 10hz - an index of .5 with a value of 50 would mean that 0.5 seconds after the index conditions were met (after target rpm vs. manifold pressure), valve duty would be 50% of the valve duty which makes 5 hz.. so you can ramp anywhere up to max duty which would be 10hz in this case. Is this correct?

Also, I noticed the sequential control off table is set up via manifold pressure and rpm. So, if I'm at 4000rpms, when adequate airflow exists to drive each turbo in parallel, then opening and closing the IACV and EGCV to switch between sequential and parallel at this point would seem to contradict smooth and consistent power delivery during transient throttle changes (on my old Aristo, the IACV and EGCV would stay open until I dropped below certain rpm). Is there a way to keep IACV and EGCV open until I drop below a certain rpm with the ProEFI software?

Few more questions below:

  • Is it possible to alter the rpm scales for the sequential valve on/off tables?  i.e. lower max rpm to 3500 or increase resolution in transition zone.
  • Is it possible to have different sequential valve on rpm scale and sequential valve off scales for the same valve?

Ok, I can't enter in numbers to alter scale just by trying to enter into cell...  but right clicking to specify value did work to change rpm scale.  Can't do the rpm scales between on and off at different set points though.  Hmmm...

Some reference vids from way back on my old Aristo.

This was minimum throttle I could get the change over to happen.  Higher gear so you can see it sort of slow mo.

Here you can see IACV and EGCV staying open, locking in parallel mode, even at light throttle after WOT.   Stayed this way until dropped below accpetable changeover rpm.

Light Throttle to 5000 rpms actually kept closed.  In line with thinking of rpm/kpa tables in the proefi.

Ofcourse, just change your index points.

Currently, if I change the rpm values in say the on table, it will automatically change the values in the off table to be identical (as per picture below). I would prefer to have the Off table start at say 3000rpm, and the On table say 4000rpm max.

You can't do that...they use the same breakpoints table.

Ok, fair enough.

As for keeping the valve that I want on above certain rpm to lock it into parallel operation - Basically... if I set the last rpm in the on or off table to 3250 rpm,  and then put in a ridiculously long index. it will keep the valve open at any rpm above 3250rpm until it either completes counting through the long index or rpms drop back down to 3250 and manifold pressure meets the off condition?
