Currently I am on a Motec M600 managing a 2L version 1.8t 4 cylinder running E85 making 500 whp in a 92 VW GTI. I am moving away from motec for Pro EFI 128 because it has so many nice otions that motec charges an arm or leg for. The motor in my GTI will be removed and swapped into an 04 Audi A4 Quattro 6 speed with a pro EFI aiming for 700whp with the help of a turbo swap. I'm looking forward to traction control, DBW and Antilag that pro EFI offers that isn't an upgrade like it would be on Motec.

I talked to a local tuner and he touched on the subject quickly and I don't think I caught it all. Can you write to the 128 in real time? He mentioned something about having to wait for a relay after you turn off the key for data to be written to the ECU. He may be talking about the 48 but thats why I am here, to get get clarification. Thanks for any help.

Hey Turbomiles,

Having used both, I can tell no difference between the changes which must be made offline and then flashed for the 48 and 128. What the tuner is referring to is, after flashing your newly compiled software to the ECU (offline changes), you must key the ignition off and wait 60 seconds before keying on again. In this time, you hear the ECU switch off the main relay. Both the 48 and 128 do this.

To answer your question, yes, you can write to both the 48 and 128 real-time. The majority of your tuning (fuel VE and spark maps) is done online and instantaneously. Offline changes for matters like pin assignment are things that, in my opinion, would not waste dyno time because you or your dealer has already taken care of them while pinning out the harness and getting the vehicle moving under its own power.
