94 Supra Auto MAP, FPS, UEGO install Empty
PostSubject: 94 Supra Auto MAP, FPS, UEGO install   94 Supra Auto MAP, FPS, UEGO install Icon_minitimeTue Jun 14, 2011 2:13 pm

I wanted to share my install of the ProEFI into my 94 auto Supra. Jason, Adam, Larry, if there is something on here that doesn’t look right, please let me know so I can correct it.

Here is the install for the ProEFI which includes the following:
ProEFI 128 pin
Auto harness
Map Sensor
Fuel Pressure Sensor
Wideband Sensor

With the help from Adam at ProEFI, I put together the following which might help some when installing the MAP and FPS for a ProEFI in the future. Below I have broken out from the ProEFI harness pin through the factory harness, to the factory sensor plug and onto the ProEFI sensor with identifiers and colors.

This is the location of the two factory sensor plugs you need to use (T14 and T2)
94 Supra Auto MAP, FPS, UEGO install ProefiMAPFPR2
Followed with the schematic of what you need to cut and splice in order to get these two sensors connected.

I first started with the FPS which taps into the TPS plug (T2) shown below
94 Supra Auto MAP, FPS, UEGO install CIMG5797
Here you can see I’ve cut the factory red wire and stripped the B/R wire, brown wire still needed to be stripped.
94 Supra Auto MAP, FPS, UEGO install CIMG5798
After soldering and adding heat shrink tube, I was finished with the FPS connection. I did wire up a ground to the shielded braid for the harness, but Adam said that wasn’t necessary.
94 Supra Auto MAP, FPS, UEGO install CIMG5801

I then started on the MAP sensor which connects to the factory Turbo Pressure Sensor (T14) plug shown below. This was easier than the FPS as you just cut the plug off completely and hook up the MAP sensor wires.
94 Supra Auto MAP, FPS, UEGO install CIMG5805
One wire down, 2 more to go
94 Supra Auto MAP, FPS, UEGO install CIMG5807
Here it is completed, again, with a ground wire connected to the shielded harness (not necessary).
94 Supra Auto MAP, FPS, UEGO install CIMG5810
Here you can see where the sensors are mounted and where the harness goes. FPS is mounted to the FPR, MAP sensor is mounted on the back of the manifold next to the block off plate.
94 Supra Auto MAP, FPS, UEGO install CIMG5811

I then stated on the wideband. The only difficult part to this is getting the harness into the cab to the ProEFI somehow. I chose to run the line through the firewall where the factory engine harness comes through. Here is the harness and wideband
94 Supra Auto MAP, FPS, UEGO install CIMG5726

I had to remove the stock ECU so I pulled the carpet and plastic panel and there it was, along with the TRAC module and GReddy BCC. That was actually the first time I saw the BCC.
94 Supra Auto MAP, FPS, UEGO install CIMG5827
I removed both computers and the BCC. Please note that when removing the BCC, you need to reconnect the Black/Yellow wire that was cut originally for the BCC. Below I’ve removed everything and you can see the wideband harness fished through the firewall.

Here is the ProEFI auto harness, not to be confused with a 6SPD harness as they are slightly different.

The directions that come with the wideband cable are very clear on how to install it into the harness. There are 5 wires that need to be inserted into the ECU connector and one that needs to be spliced. Here are the wires, comes with the terminals already attached from ProEFI.
94 Supra Auto MAP, FPS, UEGO install CIMG5835

I wanted to show a little more on the wiring of the ProEFI UEGO Wideband sensor to the ProEFI harness. I have taken the information provided with the ProEFI UEGO installation instructions and created the following image to help visualize the install for the cable. There are 6 wires from the UEGO cable, 5 plug directly into the ProEFI J1B connector which are the following wires:
ORANGE – J1 B01
RED – J1 B14
GREEN – J1 B15
BLACK – J1 B21
WHITE – J1 B20
The sixth wire (LIGHT BLUE) needs to be spliced into the wire that is already inserted into J1 B02. You should be able to pull out the wire that is in B02, slide heat shrink over the wire, and reinsert the original terminal back into B02. Once complete, you can strip the wire coating and splice the LIGHT BLUE wire on. Once soldered on, slide the heat shrink over the bare wires and heat.

I had issues with pulling some of the wires out when I needed to splice wires to the ProEFI harness. If you can’t pull the terminal out of the connector, you can just cut the harness where the splice needs to be, and solder the 3 wires back together. Make sure to heat shrink the bare wires (don’t use electrical tape as you don’t want it coming apart over time).

Here is a picture of the wires going into the ProEFI J1B connector. Note the splice in pin B02 as there is wire already there.

This is a picture of the J1B connector prior to installing the UEGO cable.
94 Supra Auto MAP, FPS, UEGO install CIMG5842
Here are the UEGO wires ready to be installed (LIGHT BLUE wire already spliced). Just push the terminals into the connector and they will lock into place.
94 Supra Auto MAP, FPS, UEGO install CIMG5844
When you flip the connector over, you should be able to see the tip of the terminal (shown in the red box). If you don’t see it very easily, it may not be seated all the way. Just push the wire farther into the connector. You could use a wire insertion tools to push the terminal in or even small 1.4mm flathead screwdriver. It doesn’t take much effort to get the terminal to seat properly.

Here is a closer look after the ProEFI UEGO cable now connected to the J1B connector. I’ve also zip tied the UEGO cable to the harness.
94 Supra Auto MAP, FPS, UEGO install CIMG5845
Here you can see the wideband cable now attached to the harness.
94 Supra Auto MAP, FPS, UEGO install CIMG5846
Now it’s ready to put the ProEFI in. Here it is
94 Supra Auto MAP, FPS, UEGO install CIMG5843
I put a thin rubber mat behind the ProEFI, drilled some holes in the car and mounted the unit, and attached a ground wire. I followed that up with connecting the harness to the factory harness.
94 Supra Auto MAP, FPS, UEGO install CIMG5851
I tucked the wires away, cut the plastic ECU cover, and reinstalled everything. The install was almost complete but there was one more thing I needed to do. I needed to remove the injector resistor box and make a loop back plug. Here is the schematic for the resistor box, you are basically removing the box from the diagram and connecting all the wires that go into the box together.
94 Supra Auto MAP, FPS, UEGO install Resistorbox
Here is what I cut. I used this plug as the loopback plug after I soldered all the wires together. Once done, plug it back into the factory harness.

So is the TPS Idle SW Signal no longer used for anything after going ProEFI?

That is correct, the TPS no longer sends a closed throttle signal through to the ProEFI as that signal is now being used to measure the fuel pressure when hooked up this way. The ProEFI still uses the resistance signal it gets from the TPS to determine throttle position, it just doesn't use the IDLE SW signal anymore.
